Pontevedra is a small big city.

Pontevedra is a charming town located in the heart of the Rias Baixas in Galicia, at the bottom of the Pontevedra estuary. It is a small big city. Quiet and cozy. The city shows its imposing Renaissance manors and beautiful Galicians Baroque churches, arches, passageways and mansions with big balconies.

The tour can be started from the Alameda which occupies the former garden of the convent of Santo Domingo to Basilica of St. Mary Gothic Renaissance style, some of the most picturesque places in old town are its many squares and passages. The most emblematic building is the Peregrina Church, which was built in honor of Virgin that led to Santiago de Compostela pilgrims disembarking in the town of Baiona. For this reason, inside the temple is a beautiful image of Pilgrim Virgin which is the patron saint of Pontevedra and the Portuguese way to Santiago. In 1982 the church was declared a historic monument.
